I know that when I'm in a certain mood, only some kinds of music can make me feel good. For example:
When I'm feeling mellow, maybe a little jazzy and soulful, I listen to Norah Jones, Anita Baker, Jill Scott, Amy Winehouse, Alicia Keys, Robin Thicke, neo-soul, a little Marvin Gaye or John Legend.
When I'm feeling carefree and happy, I'll listen to John Mayer, Incubus, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Maroon 5. This is pretty much my everyday music.
When I'm feeling pensive and trying to get a grip on reality, I'll turn on some Bob Marley or Jeff Buckley. Their music really touches the core of my being♥.
If I feel like dancing or being out there and crazy, I'll listen to JT, Usher, Lloyd, my Monsoon Wedding soundtrack or some other Bollywood music, Story of the Year's 'Page Avenue' or Linkin Park's 'Reanimation', Destiny's Child etc. This side of me is really random, I'd actually listen to anything at this point.
So, what's YOUR mood music?
When I'm angry, frustrated or just feel like rockin', I've got an iPod playlist with artists like Metallica, Pantera, System of a Down, The White Stripes, Korn, Alice in Chains, Tool etc.
I like to listen to mainly alternative when I'm painting or drawing, stuff like Radiohead, Interpol, We Are Scientists, Muse, Thom Yorke, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pete Yorn. Now and then I'll get out the Mozart etc.
When I'm designing, anything goes, punk, rap, metal, alternative even select pop and even more select country (pretty much only Johnny Cash or Dwight Yoakam).
When I'm feeling light and happy (like on my way to shop for shoes) I'll listen to more poppy and or rap music like Timbaland, Nelly Furtado, Gwen Stefani, Coldplay, Less Than Jake, Snoop Dogg...
When I'm feeling super chill, I'll tend to play stuff like Gorillaz, UNKLE, Crystal Method, Junkie XL, The Chemical Brothers.
